Australian Senior XC Ski Championships (Falls Creek): Saturday 19th August – Sprint (C) starting at 9:30 am and Sunday 20th August – Distance W10 km & M15km (F).

Rocky Valley Rush & Sun Valley Ramble (C/F) – Falls Creek: Sunday 13th August starting at 10:30 am. Rush 15km and Ramble 7km. Participants can choose either classical or freestyle technique on the entry form. Click [HERE]

Ski de Femme (Falls Creek): Saturday 12th August. Instruction starts at 10 am (meet in the Nordic Bowl). Fun races start at 12 noon. Spot prices and afternoon tea following. Registration is necessary. Click [HERE]

Junior Birkie Coaching Timetable

2017 Junior Birkie Coaching Sessions are for age 11-16 years (school year levels 5-9) who may be interested in some racing and is focused on skill development and fun with participation in some races (not compulsory though!). It is definitely not for beginners. Registration is required.

Registration — Parents to Contact Ronice Goebel (see below), sign up juniors at the club house, and complete the medical form. The program will be available at the clubhouse. Parents are encouraged to be involved. Leave the Name of junior, his or her age, and parents’ names and contact details.

National Juniors Registration & Vic Junior XC Ski Championship Results

The Australian Junior XC Ski Championships are on the weekend of Saturday 29th Sprint (C) – 9:30 am and Sunday 30th July Distance (F) – 10:00 am at Falls Creek.

On-line Entry is now open. Click [HERE] to register.

Note — Early Bird entry closes Sunday 23rd July (fee is $25.00/event). Late entries are up to Wednesday 26th July but carry a late entry fee of $20.00/event.

The Victorian Junior XC Ski Championships were held last weekend at Falls Creek. Click [HERE] to view the results of the Sprint and Distance events.

Thanks to Ben Derrick – organiser (Wangaratta Skis Club) and to all his volunteers who assisted over the two days.

Adult Instruction Timetable

Miles Havlick – 2017 Birkie Coach

This winter, Miles Havlick from Boulder Colorado USA, is our volunteer coach. Miles will be coaching our Junior Birkies, coordinating Adult Instruction sessions for members and also work with the local school groups and provide assistance to the Victorian Junior XC Team.

Meeting place & time — Nordic Bowl Race Hut 10 minutes before the start of the session. If using waxed skis for the classical sessions make sure your skis are waxed and ready to go.

Limited numbers — In each session and reserved only for members, so places will be allocated on a first-in first-served basis.

Don’t miss out this year. Our Social Secretary Kerry Lucas needs to know if you are attending so please RSVP urgently.

This will be held on Thursday 20 July at Roi’s  Restaurant Kiewa Valley Highway Tawonga starting at 6pm. The two course meal is subsidised $15.00 by the club. Members pay $20.00 for the meal and for their own drinks.

Program — Lots of socialising and chat plus one member will be presented with a Life Membership and another the Ian Ryan Club Award.

Junior Joeys & Vic Juniors this weekend

Junior Joey #2 — Saturday 15th July at 11 am. Please meet Aliena at the Clubhouse for games and a tour.

Victorian Junior XC Championships — Saturday 15th July Sprint (F) starting at 9:30 am and Sunday 16th July Distance (C) starting at 10 am.  Note: There is also an Under 10 age class for a 1 km distance race on Sunday.

Entries — on the day at the Windy Corner Day Shelter from 8 am. Click [HERE] to download an Entry Form & Program that has all the information you need.

Birkie Junior Development Camp — This is on next weekend 22-23 July. See information on the club website under Programs > Junior Camp. Also on Sunday 23rd July there is Mini Series #2 (F) starting at 11 am.

Clubhouse Ready for Winter!

Hi fellow Birky members,

The opening weekend is here and there is snow. Grooming has already begun in some areas.

The clubhouse has been cleaned and fully stocked for Winter.

Please remember to keep the clubhouse locked. Please remember we don’t have rubbish bins so all rubbish to be taken home. And please, if your children are using the kids corner, to pack it up each time, don’t wait to the end of the day to pack it up.

The second week of the Victorian school holidays sees a raft of junior programs being run out of the clubhouse all week. So be mindful and stagger lunches, especially on wet days.
